»Stadt im Wandel«

Photographs taken from the same perspective — sometimes up to 100 years apart — are layered and stitched together. A red thread, quite literally running through all the works like a seam between the images, emphasizes the central idea: Mainz’s past is intrinsically connected to its present. This project was created as part of an open call by the exhibition space ↘»kunSTück e.v.«

The collages offer a journey through a part of Mainz’s history. What has changed, and what has remained the same? How did people live in the past? How stark is the contrast to daily life today? What historical events have shaped the city? The exhibition explores moments of stagnation and transformation, beauty as well as the darkest chapters of history — underscoring that Mainz has always been a city rich in history.
